About Temple
Sri Talpagiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple is a historic Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ranganatha (a reclining form of Lord Vishnu). Located on the banks of the Penna River, it is one of the oldest and most iconic temples in Nellore.
Architecture
Built in Dravidian architectural style. Famous Gaaligopuram (~70–100 ft tall) with gold kalashams. Main deity in Ananta Shayana (reclining on Adisesha) posture. Sub-shrines for Ranganayaki Ammavaru, Andal, Alwars.
Historical Background
Origin linked to Kashyapa Maharshi’s yagna on Penna river banks. Established during Pallava period (7th century). Expanded by Chola kings (12th century). Contributions from Pandya rulers & later devotees.

By Air
Nearest is Tirupati Airport (TIR) – 125 km from Nellore. From there take a taxi or cab directly to Nellore city (2–3 hours). Private cabs, Ola, Uber, or pre-arranged hotel transfers are available.
By Train
Nearest Railway Station: Nellore Railway Station (NLR) – 3 km from the temple. Take Auto-rickshaw or cab (~10–15 min).
By Road
From Nellore City: 3–5 km (~10–15 min). Buses operated by APSRTC from major cities in Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu. Private cabs and taxis are also available for direct travel
