About Temple
Kanakamaha Lakshmi Temple is one of the most revered shrines in Visakhapatnam, dedicated to Goddess Kanaka Mahalakshmi—the guardian deity of the city. Believed to bestow prosperity, protection, and blessings, the temple draws devotees daily and especially on Thursdays and during Margasira Masam.
Architecture
Traditional Dravidian‑influenced temple architecture — simple yet spiritually reverent, standing in the busy old‑town area of Burujupeta.
Historical Background
The idol is believed to be swayambhu (self‑manifested) and was once discovered near the old fort area. The present shrine was constructed in 1912. Local lore says removing the idol once led to plague in 1917, after which it was restored, reinforcing belief in the deity’s protective powers.
Prasad / Prasadam :
Distributed at temple counters (varies based on puja contribution)
(Check at temple office for daily offerings)
Major Festivals
Margasira Masam (Nov–Dec) - Month‑long celebrations with special pujas
Navratri, Diwali, Ugadi: Special decorations & rituals
